If support calculations are based on a guideline, what do I need you for?

A guideline calculation is easy to perform once you have determined the parties’ net-incomes.  My job is to advocate to the Court as to what the parties’ net incomes are. Additionally, the Court will deviate from the guidelines in certain circumstances and there are adjustments to the guidelines for things like medical expenses, cost of insurance, childcare expenses and high mortgage payments.  Additionally, simply put the administrators who make the guideline determinations often make mistakes.  Without a lawyer, you won’t be able to determine what those mistakes were, and if you agree to a payment based upon a mistake or faulty information you may not be able to undue that error.
